The
Teatro
Nacional,
constructed
of
white
marble
and
inaugurated
on
August
16
1973
as
part
of
the
Plaza
Cultural
that
supplanted
the
enormous
estate
of
Trujillo,
it
houses
the
National
Symphony,
Ballet
and
Opera.
The
left
side
of
the
theatre
is
adorned
with
a
statue
of
Mexican-Spanish
Comedic
Dramatist
Juan
Ruiz
de
Alarcon
y
Mendoza,
born
in
Guerrero
Mexico
in
1581.
The
plaque
reads,
"Juan
Ruiz
de
Alarcon.
Del
Pueblo
y
Gobierno
de
Guerrero
Mexico
al
Pueblo
y
Gobierno
de
la
Republica
Dominicana."
